Toolbar Defaults

FlipBooks → Settings → Toolbar is where you set the default toolbar for every new FlipBook on your site. Per-FlipBook overrides take priority, but if a FlipBook is set to "Global" for its toolbar group, it inherits whatever you set here.

This article lists every button and explains when to turn each one on or off.

How to use this page

  1. Go to FlipBooks → Settings → Toolbar.
  2. The page shows four sections (Navigation, Content Tools, Actions, Interface).
  3. Toggle individual buttons on or off.
  4. Save.

Every new FlipBook from now on uses these defaults. Existing FlipBooks with their Toolbar tab set to "Global" pick up the changes too.

Rotate

Always-on buttons

These are always available because the viewer relies on them:

  • More Menu — the overflow menu when buttons don't fit.
  • Close — shown when the FlipBook is in a popup or fullscreen.
  • FlipBook Styles picker — runtime style switcher (Default / Hardcover / Spiral).

You can't disable these from the Toolbar settings.

Always-hidden buttons

  • View mode switchers (3D / Vertical / Horizontal) are hidden from the More menu. The default view mode is set under General → Default View Mode and readers stay with it.

Buttons that auto-hide based on content

When a FlipBook's source is Image Gallery (not PDF), these PDF-only buttons hide automatically:

  • Download
  • Search
  • Print
  • Form Viewer
  • Read Aloud

They don't make sense for image-based books, so the viewer suppresses them. Per-FlipBook overrides can't re-enable them.

Recommended default profiles

"Standard reading experience"

Everything in Navigation and Content Tools on. Standard set of Actions (Share, Fullscreen, Reading Mode, Read Aloud). Theme Toggle and Logo on. Tilt and Rotate off.

This is what most sites should use.

"Paid / gated content"

Same as Standard, but:

  • Download: Off
  • Print: Off

Pair with Protection Settings for full lockdown.

"Reference document — power users"

Everything on. Use Top-Fullwidth or Bottom-Fullwidth toolbar layout to fit everything visibly.

"Minimal — focus on content"

  • Page Indicator + Prev/Next only
  • Search + Zoom only
  • Fullscreen, Reading Mode only
  • Theme Toggle off, Logo on

A clean, low-distraction toolbar.

Toolbar layout (where it sits)

Set under Display → Toolbar Layout (not the Toolbar tab):

  • Bottom-Center — compact pill at the bottom (default).
  • Top-Center — compact pill at the top.
  • Bottom-Fullwidth — full-width strip at the bottom (more buttons fit visibly).
  • Top-Fullwidth — full-width strip at the top.

If you enable many buttons, the Compact pill layouts collapse overflow into a More menu. Fullwidth layouts show more buttons inline.

Per-FlipBook overrides

A specific FlipBook can override the global toolbar:

  1. Edit the FlipBook.
  2. Switch to the Toolbar tab.
  3. For each section (Navigation, Content Tools, etc.), flip the section's Override switch from Global to Custom.
  4. Toggle individual buttons.
  5. Save.

The override is per-section — you can customize just Navigation for a FlipBook while leaving Content Tools, Actions, and Interface on Global.

Full details: Toolbar Customization.

Troubleshooting

Changes to global toolbar don't appear on existing FlipBooks.

  • The FlipBook's Toolbar tab may be set to Custom — overrides win. Open the FlipBook and flip the override switch back to Global.
  • Cache may be stale. Clear caches.

A specific button doesn't appear.

  • The FlipBook source might be Image Gallery (PDF-only buttons auto-hide). Switch source to PDF if needed.
  • The button may be in the More menu (overflow). Switch Toolbar Layout to Fullwidth.
  • The button might be disabled in protection settings (e.g. Download blocked by "Disable Download").

Search button is missing on a PDF FlipBook.

  • Confirm Search is enabled in the Toolbar settings.
  • Confirm the FlipBook source is PDF (not Image Gallery).
  • For multi-PDF, search works across all chapters.
